Kathy sent a message to Suzy and me
expressing the hoe that the something will be developed to treat early
Alzheimers. She also reminded us to wear
purple on September 21st, World Alzheimer’s Day, and that the Walk
to End Alzheimer’s was coming up on September 24-- starting at Mission Bay Park
in S.F.
Dear
Kathy, Suzy, and Jonathan~
Here’s an interesting article about
increased happiness coming from taking dementia sufferers off everything except
aspirin!
They
mention taking them off of Seroquel. I’m
so glad we got Mom off that! What is Mom
on now? They also mention Risperdal,
Zyprexa, Geodon, Abilify and Invega—the brand names. Of course, Mom’s state isn’t one of “blankness.” That describes most of the other residents of
Perry more than Mom.
I forgot to tell you what followed
on Tuesday, while Mom and I were lying in our cuddle and she made that comment about what she
wants to do for her 90th birthday:
“Sit and look at people.”
I said, “We could sing, too,
and you could play the piano the way you
did when Jonathan was here.”
She asked what she’d played, and I
said, “Fur Elise” and “This Is My Country” and “Let Me Call You
Sweetheart.” She said, “Yes, that’s my repertoire.”
For some reason the song “You’ll
Never Walk Alone” came to my mind, and I started singing it. Mom joined in. She remembered those words. Neither of us cried. We just sang.
By the way, where’s her new
roommate?
I’m going to see her at about 11:00
today.
Love,
Tina/Mom

When
you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark
At the end of the storm
Is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of the lark
Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on walk on with hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark
At the end of the storm
Is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of the lark
Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on walk on with hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone
PS
I have a card from Aegis asking that we save October 27, 2011 for their 13th
anniversary Party. Do we have a date for Mom’s birthday? Oh, I just
noticed that Aegis’ party is on a Thursday, so I won’t be able to go. But
at least it’s not competing with the weekend, when we’ll have Mom’s.
{April
2013: I can see that it was around this
time that Jonathan convinced me to listen to the fears of Kathy and Suzy and
stop trying to get Mom home for her 90th.}
