Subject: Comforting Mom
Dear Kathy, Suzy, and Jonathan,
When I’m not brain dead, I’d like to discuss ways of comforting Mom. I
tell her repeatedly how much we love her and remind her that we DO visit her
regularly and repeat everything nice people at Aegis have said about her and I
hug her and say (honestly) that Aegis is the kind of place I’d like to go when
I get older. (Never mind that I hope to be on the other side of that
door.) But when she asks me why Kathy doesn’t want her to live with her
any more, I remind her that she has Alzheimer’s and told us to find another
place for her to live. I repeatedly tell her how much Kathy loves her—how
much we all do—but I just wonder whether you would advise being less
candid. She definitely gets depressed when she doesn’t have the illusion
that she’d going home.
Love,
Tina/Mom
