Between my visits, Nan, the friend
who had faithfully visited Mom every Wednesday with Thai takeout before Mom went
to Aegis, had a really good visit with Mom and stayed for about an hour and a
half, which Kathy described as “a record
for Nan, as usually your Mom kicks her out rather quickly,” hoping to protect
Nan from getting murdered and herself from getting blamed.
Mom ate well, and Kathy had hopes of
taking her to Happy Hour, a term that seemed so hopeful for this group of
people, considering what Dee told us about never having seen a person with
Alzheimer’s who seemed really happy. Could
they be happy for an hour, for the hour so designated?
Mom had eaten everything on her
plate, and Kathy—whose plate had been too full—was finally taking a break, a
trip to Yosemite with some of her former work mates “for a few days,” but it was only from Sunday
through Tuesday!
