Before I go back to sharing things Mom wrote back in 1965, I want to share the little book Kathy got her so we could record our visits with her and she would know that we'd been there every day. I found inside it a picture I took of Nancy Pelosi looking like Mom--thin, big eyes, short straight hair, a look of anguish. Pelosi looks more like Mom than she (Pelosi) looks like herself. But in the little book, there are a lot of pictures of Mom smiling. Visits with Nadine
The little book begins with Saturday, April 2 and ends in July. I guess we had another way of helping Mom remember during the days between July 4 and October 7. Pictures include Javier, Mom and me, Mom and Kathy Karl, Mom, Ada and me--all before Mom's haircut.
On Friday April 15, 2011 Mom's written "Kathy came & went." I wrote "Kathy also came & cleaned up, re-arranging the flowers & cleaning up the crumbs that Tina soon brought in with her just out-of-the-oven magic cookie bars. Mom, with her new hair..." Then Mom's handwriting finishes "Cut & the good cookies brought around plus the pictures taken made it great!"'
Tues., April 19, 2011 Betsy & Tina came by and brought sandwiches & magic cookie bars, which we ate in the cafeteria at the long table." (I realize now that that was called the dining room!)
Suzy's written on Wed., April 20: Suzy came Mother doing x-word, content in room. We talked and did X-word puzzle. Mother said she could really enjoy living here if the visits just continue. I assured her they would. invited me to stay for lunch. I was pleased to get the invitation but unfortunately had an appt.
Most of what we write in the book is in our letter exchanges, but what we don't have are Mom's comments like this one around April 24, 2011:
"I feel so low after taking the orange meds. I have to say that I have no reason to injure myself or anyone else, however."
That's when I think of Pelosi.
