When I pass by a bulletin board at the Y, they still have up the question "What was the best thing your dad ever did for you?" I usually think of his greatest gift as being the one I plan to bestow upon my child: Finding a place to live not with an offspring. I used to tell people I loved my dad so much that I'd rather die than turn my back on him, so if he wanted to live with us, I'd kill myself.
But there are other "best" things that Daddy did. He loved nature and the great outdoors, and even though I preferred not to rough it as I was growing up, I can't think of the Grand Canyon without thinking of him (as well as of Ted.) So...when I'm less tired, I'll come back and explain what I mean.
