Funeral Flowers--an Environmental Issue?

My mother's first cousin Bert died last Friday, and I went online to order flowers for his funeral service today.  His grandson's wife told me he'd said he'd really like red roses at his funeral, so that's what I ordered--a big, beautiful spray of red roses on an easel.  Then I got a call--after it was too late to order flowers form another florist--that they were short of red flowers so they were substituting an autumn arrangement.  What did that mean?  Orange, yellow, brown what instead of red roses?  Oh, and there would be no easel, but that's all right cause I can't spell it.  Anyway, I expressed my disbelief that they would let me know so late after I'd placed my order and suggest something so different from what I'd ordered online, but now for another angle:  Why were they out of red roses?  And how is this connected to the environment, the way absolutely everything  is?  Does Tacoma, Washington support local florists?  Were the flowers delayed from Colombia because Maria Full of Grace had resorted to being a mule to make a living?  This is something I will research after my dental appointment today.

I don't think this is the kind of community-provided bench the SF Chronicle was talking about today in its article https://www.sfchronic...
