Did You Know That Your Whole Way of Living is about to Change?
I just woke up from a dream (inspired by David Foster Wallace's A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again?) in which everything--time shares, marriage--was set up so that everyone lost in every season and at every moment. I don't think that's how I regard life, but every time I see a San Francisco Chronicle ad saying, "Did you know?" and illustrated by a desk top, a laptop, an e-reader, a Smart-phone, and an iPad, I know that they're trying to wean us for the day to come when I may never be able to do again what has been my two-hour morning ritual for decades. I'm glad we'll be saving the trees, but oh, how I've loved that waste-of-paper ritual.
