I do my students' homework. Maybe they do it too. I know some of them do. But I do the interview assignments so I can see how it goes and write up a sample report. This spring break my 50 high school reunion is on my mind, and I'm spending a lot of time sending tributes and photos. But my students are still there on my mind. I finally got around to the newspaper from March 28 with a Nanette Asimov report headlines "Trial on future of City College set for October." I also saw an araticle in Mike Kepka's The City Explosed on music to calm kids who are in intensive care, which fits in with our unit on alternative medicine, and on search dogs taki;ng a two-day break from sniffing out the mudslide, which fits into both our lesson on the intelligence of animals in ESL 140 Academic Reading and Writing and specifically on "Canine Colleagues," the next unit in ESL 142--after we finish Bacteria Burgers and the unit on "The Green Thing." (I have to continue for the group work on campus green too!)
So...to imitate group work, I asked Nicole to interview her mother, who's visiting this week, and Linda Gillette to interview her aunt in Portland. I planned to call Aunt Virginia later today. Then, while I was working on CHS-related matters, I noticed the blinking light. It was a call from Aunt Virginia, saying she hoped we were safe from the tsunami! So I conducted the interview between 9:20 and 10:10!
