Lesson from Laugh-inducing Student

I am blessed this semester with a slightly-older rather fluent adult in my Intermediate Speaking and Listening class.  He always makes playful comments, and even though I think of myself as having a sense of humor, I'm also plagued with an earnestness, so he definitely outdoes me in mirth.  Today when I made suggestions about the native-English-speaking people they could talk to for their interview assignment, he said, "I found someone, but she says the interview has to be dinner out, and she likes lobster."  That's the sort of playful comments he's always making.  He won a BINGO prize for getting the signatures of the most people described on the BINGO grid, and he shared his box of cookies with the whole class and had none for himself.  "That's all right," he said.  "I have to get in good with all the ladies."

So...aren't I lucky.

Today at Macy's everything seemed in slow-motion.  Each transaction took 10 minutes instead of going at that Target 10-second clip.  I have to admit that I was a bit annoyed, but I tried to remind myself that I'm too speedy.  Here's something I wrote to the tune of "Feeling Groovy," which tells us to slow down.

Speed up.  You move too slow.
Make the day end.  Time to go!
Racing through life the fast lane.
Beating the clock and
Feeling hurried.

Hello, watch.
What time you showing?
I’ve got to run.  The hour is going.
Have you got alarms for me?
It’s half-past three.
I’m hurried.  Got deeds to do, promise to keep
I’m frantic and panicked with no time to sleep.

To be continued...

I don't think this is the kind of community-provided bench the SF Chronicle was talking about today in its article https://www.sfchronic...
