There are 44 ESL classes that are under-enrolled--that means with fewer than 20 students--and one of my three classes, ESL 140 003, is among them. There are 11 classes that have between 3 and 9, and ESL 140 003 is among them. (Hah! I made the short list!) Seven students enrolled in my ESL 140 003 class, and only 5 have shown up although two students came to add after class yesterday. One teacher I know is excellent had all three of his classes under-enrolled.
I don't feel totally demoralized, and after all, I have two classes that are not under-enrolled--yet. Still, I notice that the person most interested in my lessons is the teacher!
I feel the way a person must feel in a marriage. So much time, effort and hope have been invested, and at least one person is trying hard to salvage it all. But the answer to "Can this marriage be saved?" is no, and the feeling is battered and bruised.
