One-Minute Self-Introductions

Shame on me!  I left my NorthStar 4 book at home today and had to borrow one from a student.  In spite of that, ESL 140 and the two ESL 142 classes went well. Of course, before class, the copy machines were out of paper and there were no boxes of paper in the Women's Lounge on the second floor of Arts as there sometimes are.

I'm remembering to review each day, and I've prepared a sheet for ESL 140 to mark the stressed syllable, since I see that they have trouble with that when they read out loud.  I'd like them to learn to mark stressed syllables within their texts too.  I've prepared a multiple choice quiz for a reading they're doing independently for Wednesday, "Focus on Bomb Suspect Leads to Tears and a Plea."

The ESL 142 students gave their 1-minute self-introductions today with varying success in comprehensibility.  I've graded the note cards of ESL 142 002 and almost finished a BINGO grid about each presenter's "uniqueness."  Some stated truly unique things like the student who was born here, was one of 11 children, and is a single father.  Others put down things like "dessert" as their unique point.

I also worked on listing all my Flex Day credits.  I've been too lax about getting those in!

And I got my CALSTRS "bill" for how much I'd have to pay to buy back service credit:  $5520.27.

So now all I have to do is read the letters of introduction the ESL 140 students wrote, which I'll make my early morning reading tomorrow between 3:00 and 5:00 AM and grade the note cards of ESL 142 003 and create a BINGO grid for their uniqueness.  Also, I'll get to campus no later than 8:30 tomorrow so I can run off the quiz and the BINGO grids and look through Jim McKinney's material and mine for a diagnosis test and chapter test for ESL 140.

I haven't begun to read the latest listserve "discussions," but I see that Rudy Padilla has sent our salaries for 1988.

I don't think this is the kind of community-provided bench the SF Chronicle was talking about today in its article https://www.sfchronic...
