The results of my Life Style Project can be seen in the dream I had last night. I asked a restaurant to box the remains of my dinner, which I wanted to finish later. (My friends were in a hurry to leave.) But once outside the restaurant, I looked for the bins to put the containers (hard plastic) and the food itself in. After I did that, I realized that I'd meant to eat those leftovers! But I was so intent on putting the compost in the green bin that I forgot that I, myself, am a good compost heap!
Yesterday's write-up was delayed because of a wonderful visit made possibible by the geologists' convention now in SF. I got together with someone I've known for 56 years (and used to baby-sit) and also had lunch with her and her husband Jim Kauahikaua, the first Hawaiian to be made the head of the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory, which celebrated its 100th anniversary last year. When she was a little girl, I used to read to her, so that's what we're doing here. I gave her a copy of a book in which I have a chapter, but what I'm reading is the book Jim helped write, The Story of the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory--A Remarkable First 100 Years of Tracking Eruptions and Earthquakes. I think it's neat that Jim goes to the Volcano every morning at 6:00 AM. What a way to begin the day!
